Over recent weeks, the Green Earth team has been out in the field across our projects in Kenya, with several activities running in parallel. Cookstove distribution, farmer training, and a stakeholder consultation moved forward together, each one taking the projects a step further on the ground.
Our teams distributed 1,800 energy-efficient cookstoves to households in Laikipia North across two distributions in August 2026. The stoves reached families in Doldol and Ngenia as part of the Hongera Energy Efficient Cookstoves Project.
The first distribution delivered 900 stoves across both villages. Doldol, a semi-arid area home to the Maasai community, received 450 stoves, and Ngenia received the other 450. A second distribution brought a further 900 stoves to households in Ngenia. Local communities are keen to take part, and they welcomed the stoves for the everyday difference they make to these rural households.

The Hongera project, developed under the Gold Standard, manufactures and distributes energy-efficient cookstoves across Kenya. It aims to reach tens of thousands of households, improve their living standards and their reliance on natural resources, while at the same time capturing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon over its lifetime. These efficient stoves burn less firewood, ease pressure on nearby forests, and improve air quality inside the home. Local manufacturing also creates jobs and keeps skills in the community.

Green Earth also ran farmer training sessions across the region as part of the Mount Kenya Regenerative Agroforestry Project. The sessions introduced the project to local farmers and welcomed those who wished to take part.

The Mount Kenya project, developed under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), restores forests cleared by logging, farming, and firewood collection. It aims to plant trees at scale, restore degraded land, capture carbon, and support smallholder farmers across the region over its 41-year lifetime. Participating smallholder farmers receive seedlings, training, and the yields from the trees they grow, from avocado and macadamia to mango. Restored catchment forests protect the region's water supply and its wildlife.
Such stakeholder consultations bring local community members together to discuss the projects and their role. This kind of involvement is what carries a project over its decades-long lifetime, as the people who help shape the work become its long-term stewards, protecting the forests and the carbon they hold.

Together, cookstove distribution, farmer training, and community consultation advance Green Earth’s work across Kenya, supporting both the people and the forests around them.
These two projects show how nature restoration and cleaner cooking grow side by side. Efficient cookstoves reduce the firewood each family needs, and new agroforestry brings trees, income, and water security back to the land.
