What sustainability targets have you set, and how are you working towards achieving these sustainability targets?
We are committed to being carbon balanced across all our practices by the end of 2026. As part of this, we are:
- Transitioning all energy contracts to green energy upon renewal.
- Measuring and tracking our carbon emissions across all practices.
- Looking to compensate for our emissions across all practices, whilst looking for ways we can reduce our impact.
- Already offsetting emissions for 34 out of 54 practices, balancing their carbon emissions.
- Conducting sustainability training for practices that are carbon balanced.
- Partnering with the Green Earth for verified carbon compensation projects.
- Requiring CSR documentation from suppliers to ensure sustainability and ethical compliance.
- Offering recycling programmes for glasses, hearing aids, and contact lenses to reduce waste.
What motivated Bayfields to calculate and compensate for its carbon footprint with Green Earth?
Our goal is to take full responsibility for our emissions while driving industry-wide change. Partnering with Green Earth allows us to verify and offset unavoidable emissions through high-impact projects that align with global sustainability standards.

How does this initiative align with Bayfields’ broader sustainability goals and values?
This project directly supports our carbon-balanced goal for all our practices, complementing our renewable energy transition, carbon compensating strategy, and waste reduction initiatives. It reflects our broader mission to drive positive environmental and social change.
What message would you like to share with other businesses considering similar actions?
Sustainability isn’t just about meeting targets; it’s about embedding responsibility into every aspect of business. By taking measurable steps, collaborating with trusted suppliers, and holding ourselves accountable, businesses can make a real impact on the environment while strengthening their operations for the future.

The power of efficient cookstoves
The Hongera Energy Efficient Cookstoves Project is a verified initiative in Kenya that Bayfields selected as part of its carbon compensation strategy. The project manufactures and distributes energy-efficient cookstoves to 150,000 households that traditionally rely on firewood, charcoal, or kerosene. These cookstoves significantly reduce carbon emissions and household air pollution—one of the leading causes of respiratory illnesses globally.

Beyond reducing emissions, the project supports local communities by creating jobs and improving the quality of life. The stoves are designed to significantly reduce the amount of firewood needed, which helps alleviate pressure on surrounding forests and make reforestation efforts more effective. For families, particularly women and children, this means improved health, saved time, and reduced household costs.
