The Green Earth Sauki Cookstove Project in Nigeria is setting a new standard for sustainable cooking. With a plan to deliver 326,000 locally manufactured, energy-efficient cookstoves, the initiative is transforming how households cook, conserve resources, and protect their health. Beyond cutting carbon emissions and reducing deforestation, the project uplifts thousands of families, particularly women, across North Central Nigeria.

The project is now reaching an important stage—the baseline survey phase, where our trained enumerators begin gathering crucial household data. Their work lays the foundation for measuring the project’s true environmental and social impact.
To ensure the highest standards of data integrity, Green Earth recently completed an intensive enumerator training programme in Abuja, preparing the team for the baseline survey rollout. Twelve participants from two states and four local governments took part in a seven-hour session packed with practical exercises, role plays, and field simulations.

The training focused on ethical data collection, digital data entry, community engagement, and accuracy—all essential to ensuring that every household’s story is captured truthfully. Enumerators are not just data collectors; they are the human link between the project and the communities it serves.

Following performance assessments, the eight best-qualified participants were selected to begin field operations, which officially launched on 20 October 2025 across Nasarawa and Niger States. Their readiness marks an important step towards establishing a credible, verifiable baseline for the Sauki Cookstove Project.

Enumerators’ data collection defines the ‘before picture’—documenting current cooking habits, fuel use, and household energy patterns before improved stoves are introduced. This baseline is the backbone of the project’s future verification under Gold Standard methodologies.
Their work determines:
By capturing precise and transparent data, enumerators ensure that every verified reduction in emissions is backed by solid evidence—ultimately enabling carbon unit issuance and certification.

The enumerators’ presence in local communities also strengthens engagement and transparency. By approaching data collection with empathy and professionalism, they build trust—a crucial foundation for future stages such as stove distribution, monitoring, and follow-up.
Through this process, Green Earth reinforces its commitment not only to nature but to people-centred sustainability, where environmental progress goes hand-in-hand with improved livelihoods.

Green Earth supports companies at every stage of their sustainability pathway. From measuring emissions to developing projects and delivering verified carbon compensation, we provide the complete pathway for organisations ready to make a tangible difference.
