In Goor, a small city in the Dutch region of Twente, Vivafloors has turned a simple premise into a powerful philosophy: The spaces we live in should reflect not just our style, but our values. Since its founding in 2010, the company has grown into one of the Netherlands’ leading brands for luxury vinyl flooring—but what truly sets it apart is its steady commitment to responsibility and progress.

Vivafloors sees flooring not just as a surface underfoot, but as part of a bigger story about how we live, produce, and consume. With a close-knit team, a down-to-earth approach, and an eye for quality and longevity, the company aims to create floors that fit both people’s lives and a sustainable future.
To understand how this philosophy comes to life, we sat down with a representative from Vivafloors to learn more about its sustainability goals, the steps it’s taken to reduce emissions, and its partnership with Green Earth to compensate for what remains.
Can you tell us more about Vivafloors and why sustainability is important to your company?
Founded in 2010 in Twente, Vivafloors specialises in high-quality Luxury vinyl flooring that combines sustainability, design, and ease of use. Our collection consists of carefully selected styles that suit a wide range of interiors and living needs. With a strong focus on trends, quality, and a 25-year warranty, we’ve grown into a leading brand in the Netherlands.
For us, sustainability means a continuous commitment to a healthy living environment and future-proof product—from recyclable floors and phthalate-free plasticisers to a focus on environmental management and CO₂ neutrality. We take responsibility for the impact of our floors and strive for a sustainable future for everyone.

What sustainability goals have you set, and how are you working to achieve them?
Our main goal is to reduce our CO₂ emissions as much as possible and to compensate for any remaining emissions. We’re achieving this step by step, through concrete actions that make a visible difference.
In recent years, we’ve made our internal processes and logistics more sustainable. For example, we’ve fully transitioned to an electric fleet for both our warehouse and company vehicles. We also consciously chose Tielbeke as our new transport partner because of their commitment to CO₂ reduction and use of modern, cleaner trucks.
For the distribution of smaller packages, we chose Cycloon, a delivery service that mainly uses cargo bikes instead of petrol vehicles.
In early 2026, we’ll move to our new headquarters in Goor, which will be equipped with solar panels and is designed to operate energy-neutral. Inside the building, we continuously explore new ways to further reduce our energy consumption.
Our Vivafloors Recycling Guarantee also directly supports our sustainability goals and values. We want to create floors that are not only beautiful but also responsible. That’s why we collect old Vivafloors Design Flooring free of charge and ensure it is recycled in a sustainable way. Together with our customers, we reduce waste and contribute to a circular production chain. Our aim is to build an organisation that operates as sustainably as possible in every aspect.

What motivated Vivafloors to calculate and offset its CO₂ footprint with Green Earth?
We wanted to gain insight into our actual emissions to better understand where we stand and where we can still improve. By calculating our CO₂ footprint, we’ll also be able to compare it with the performance of our new energy-neutral building.
In addition, we find it important to show our customers and partners that we are actively engaged in sustainability. By offsetting our emissions through Green Earth, we make this commitment visible and contribute tangibly to a greener future.

What were your main considerations when selecting the Hongera Energy Efficient Cookstoves Project for your carbon offsetting?
We wanted to support a project that delivers measurable climate impact and is affordable, allowing us to achieve CO₂ compensation in a responsible and efficient way.
Personal involvement also played a role: Our Environmental Solutions Manager at Green Earth, Wienke Schouwink, is actively involved in the Hongera Energy Efficient Cookstoves Project, which made supporting this project even more meaningful.
The project aligns with our vision because it contributes to CO₂ reduction while improving the living conditions of local communities in Kenya.
How does this initiative align with the broader sustainability goals and values of Vivafloors?
Our focus is on directly reducing and compensating for our emissions. The collaboration with Green Earth and the Hongera project fits perfectly with this approach—it complements our own reduction measures with concrete compensation for our remaining CO₂ emissions.
With initiatives such as our Vivafloors Recycling Guarantee, the transition to a fully electric fleet, and the construction of an energy-neutral building, we aim to make the entire life cycle of our products more sustainable and minimise our environmental impact. Offsetting our emissions through Green Earth with impactful projects like the Hongera cookstoves is a logical next step in that journey.

What message would you like to share with other companies considering similar actions?
Our experience is that sustainability starts with taking action. Small, achievable steps can add up to make a big difference. Start by understanding your own impact, and then look for ways to make lasting improvements.
We’ve found that working towards sustainability is not only good for the environment but also motivates our team and is positively received by our customers and partners. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. By taking responsibility together, we can truly make a difference.
The Hongera Energy Efficient Cookstoves Project in Kenya is one of Green Earth’s flagship initiatives, designed to bring lasting change where environmental and social challenges intersect. The project locally manufactures and distributes energy-efficient cookstoves to rural households, providing a simple yet transformative solution.

By using these stoves, families cut down about 60% of firewood, which not only lowers CO₂ emissions but also eases pressure on local forests, helping them regenerate. The reduced smoke emissions improve indoor air quality, protecting the health of women and children who spend much of their time near cooking fires.
Beyond environmental benefits, the project supports local livelihoods by creating jobs in stove production and distribution. For Vivafloors, supporting Hongera means more than offsetting carbon; it’s about contributing to a circular model of sustainability that restores both nature and communities.
